Nappy rash miracle cures

My son has had diarrhoea today. Fine in himself, eating fine, no vomiting, but about 12 dirty nappies in the 12 hours since it started. As a result, he has some pretty spectacular nappy rash. Even using water wipes or plain water and cotton wool and he's screaming and running away from being cleaned. He's not able to sit down (he's either been lying down or squatting this afternoon/evening) and screamed when trying to sit in a lukewarm bath.

I've been using sudocreme from the off and swapped to metanium late morning at the first hint of redness. He's gone to bed with metanium over the sore bits and sudocreme slathered everywhere else and I'm hoping he'll stay clean overnight so that can do its thing.

Any other miracle cures for nappy rash? Metanium has always done the job (although it's never really been something he's suffered from, only really when teething as a baby) but he's been needing to be changed so frequently today it's just not having time to do anything Sad

Poor lamb. That sounds horrible. Sudocrem and nappy-free time are the only things that worked for us. Tricky with diarrhoea, I know!

I like Sudosalve when my LO’s bum is sore. Otherwise, nappy off time (when you can!!!!)

mimofboy2 · 11/03/2021 19:00

I found bepanthen was amazing for my ds1 whenever he got sore

Medihoney worked wonders for my nephew when suffering from nappy rash due to food poisoning.

You can buy on amazon and contains manuka honey

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/03/2021 19:02

Ooh ouch, scary prospect with a dodgy but nappy free time is great!

Tidypidy · 11/03/2021 19:03

Metanium was great for mine. Also salt in his bath to help it heal. Makes sure he's drinking lots to keep his wee diluted and rehydrate him.

Mummaofboys93 · 11/03/2021 19:04

No nappy when you can & Bepanthen when the nappy is on. Metanium was sadly never that miracle cream for my 2 when they had bad nappy rash.

We used to use plain cornflour on my youngest when hers was at its worst. She had super sensitive skin that reacted to almost anything. We used to dust her bum with cornflour like she was a pie, and leave her to crawl about naked. Poor thing.

Merename · 11/03/2021 19:11

I also think nappy off time is the main thing, if doable. What a shame for him, it’s horrible. And fairly rank but trying to not wipe at all but hose him off in shower and use hands under water rather than the rubbing of wipes against broken skin. Sudocrem always worked best for me but know people swear by yellow metanium.

I'm working tomorrow, my husband has taken the day off to look after him as obviously not going to nursery. Nappy free time can be on his watch 😂

Bepanthen was the only one that worked for dd.

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/03/2021 19:19

Nappy free time can be on his watch 😂

Haha excellent plan! I like your style!

Maybe suggest in the kitchen or on tiled floor... my OH would probs do it on our cream carpet!

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 11/03/2021 19:22

Yellow metanium was only thing to work on mine when she had severe nappy rash from a bout of diarrohea.
She slept on her front (toddler) and I put towels under her and left the nappy off at night. Kept reapplying when I saw it had disappeared and the rash was healed the next day

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 11/03/2021 19:23

Lanolin (lansinoh Nipple cream) was also recommended to me, don't know how effective it is though

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 11/03/2021 19:25

My nan used to clingfilm our bum cheeks. Sounds ridiculous but she maintained it worked. 😂

happymummy12345 · 11/03/2021 19:26

I know it's not recommended by most but we used Vaseline at every nappy change and rarely had problems. It was only when he was teething really bad he was a bit sore

EspressoExpresso · 11/03/2021 21:03

After a lot of tears he's cuddled to sleep which he hasn't done since he was tiny. Just hoping he stays clean overnight and the metanium can work it's magic 🤞 and if it's out his system he can run around with no nappy on Daddy's watch 🤣

In my experience, if yellow metanium doesn't fix it, it's likely fungal and needs a GP appointment.

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 12/03/2021 11:52

Hope he had an ok night and his bottom is better today

EspressoExpresso · 12/03/2021 20:14

A clean night, nappy free time (with no disasters on Daddy's watch sadly 😂) and plenty of metanium - he's much better thank you! Just a little bit of nappy rash remaining which will probably be gone by the morning.
