Colds in babies

Hi everyone,

My 11 month old LG developed a cold over the weekend and we are currently on day 5. This is the first time she has caught something and so it's not something I've dealt with before. I didn't realise how difficult it would be and the lack of sleep we would both get! It's safe to say I am exhausted.

Anyway, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything that could really help her.

I've tried nasal drops, nasal spray, snufflebabe vapour rub (which is amazing), calpol vapour plug in, suction bulb & a steamy shower room. The only thing left I can think to try is a humidifier which I'm going to get today but is it worth it? Do they help with colds? I don't want to waste £75.

Is there anything else I could try to help her? I hate seeing her like thisSad

Also, from your personal experiences... How long should I expect this cold to last?

Thank you x

Its unlikely a humidifier will do much to help so I wouldn't waste the money sorry! A damp towel over a warm radiator will have a similar effect if you want to try it though. Theres probably not much else you can do other than ride it out and wait for her to get better unfortunately, lots of cuddles and maybe some paracetamol if you feel she is sore. Sometimes a bit of fresh air helps too, for her and for you! Generally they are at their worst by day 5 and then start getting better. If you are worried about her breathing or she isn't drinking enough to be having wet nappies, that would be the time to see the gp, but it sounds like you're already doing everything right. Hope she is better soon!
