Ds nearly 12 has to have GA for molar extraction. Appt now postponed due to lockdown but will happen soon. At same time also been told he needs a crown on a baby molar and then other side baby molar top and bottom need to be removed.

The major molar that was the original problem is understandable due to crack and crumbling away.

The other molars are questionable and feel lost as to what the best thing is.
Dentist had not mentioned this at all so we have moved dentists. In between I also got a private 2nd opinion on this. They agreed on the crown but said with other baby molars 1 could also have a crown.

New dentist now says he would just get it removed rather than a crown . So many opinions that I feel lost. Are any orthodontists out there? Would having an extra molar removed cause problems in the future? Is it better to have a crown and hokd tooth as placeholder for adult tooth. Ds is is late loosing teeth so might need this for a while yet.

Why are you holding onto baby teeth at 12?

At 12 its better to remove baby molar teeth because he's at the age where they should start to exfoliate anyway

If he needs a GA it's better to get any potential source of pain and infection out to avoid multiple GAs.

Most good paediatric dentists will insist on extracting anything with decay if doing a GA.

I'm not a dentist but don't see the point of crowning a baby tooth that should be coming out anyway? As a child age 10 I would guess, I had some upper adult molars taken out due to overcrowding, the 4th one back either side. It worked very well, there's no gap and just the tiniest crossover on the front 2 and I'm 56, so it's a long time ago now? My wisdom teeth went when I was 22 and nothings shifted!
