Hand, foot and mouth - how long does it last?

My 22 month old has always had quite sensitive skin, so when her palms seemed a bit blotchy and red, I assumed it was something she'd touched but as she was well in herself I ignored.

I took her to nursery the day after (it had gone down considerably) but was then called in the afternoon to take her home as she now had little faint spots. I googled and suspected h, f &m and managed to see the doctor the next day. He agreed and said it was likely to spread but would be over in a week. Nothing they can prescribe so just wait it out.

Since then, my daughter has been fine in her moods in general but the spots have remained only on her hands. They seem to get worse (hands get swollen, puffy and the spots are quite visible) and then ease and then get worse again but so far no blisters.

Is this normal, I thought we'd have seen some improvement (7 days) by now? Should I still be anticipating a further spread on the body or could it be a relatively mild case?
Thanks very much.
