Horrifically Smelly Urine

Hi mamas,

My DS is 2.5 and woke this morning with a urine soaked nappy that absolutely stank to the point where I had to open his window to get the smell out. It smells like sour milk and vinaigrette combined and took my breath away 🤢.

However all his wet nappies this morning have been normal with no real smell at all. He has no other symptoms and is running around as usual and eating and drinking.

Should I be worried?

The only thing he had differently before bedtime was some choc chip mint ice cream for his dessert and some warm milk before bed, where as it’s usually room temp.

Any advice appreciated.

J&E’s mum x

Possible urinary tract infection, can only tell from a sample.

DD occasionally has this, she absolutely stinks. I've always just assumed it's normal tbh, I think any urine left overnight would stink.

Maybe dehydration? Maybe he did a wee much earlier in the night than usual. If it is anything like an adult UTI i doubt it would be better after the first wee. They aren't that easily shaken off

Thanks for replying ladies. His urine has been normal all day - I can’t think of what could have caused it. It was like sour milk combined with vinegar and the smell took my breath away.

I handed a sample into the GP for testing as a precaution but they don’t seem concerned as his pee all day has been clear and smell free.

What a stress out little ones cause us.

Xxx
