Missed antibiotics dose

This is not the 1st is happening but I just want to know what others do & suggestions. So, my 5-year-old is on antibiotics for tonsilitis (to take every 6 hours for 4 times a day). I did set a reminder on Alexa and it is going well until I didn't hear the 4:28 am reminder/notification this morning. I woke up at 7:30 am & gave the dose that I should have given at 4:28 am. I next dose should be 10:28 am but since I gave a does at 7:30 am, when should I give the next dose? Shall wait another 6 hours or give at 10:28??

Think you are bring too literal. I would interpret 4 times as on waking, lunch, teatime, bedtime.

Is there a pharmacy open near you? There is usually one open in somewhere like Asda, or a local Boots. You could ring and ask.

I'd do the doses during waking hours. I wouldn't be waking overnight

FitzChivalry · 14/02/2021 09:18

It's awake hours only. So dont worry. As LIZS said

fistasledge · 14/02/2021 09:19

We're currently doing antibiotics for my 13 month old and I agree with above poster about being too literal.

We do when he wakes, before lunch, mid afternoon and right before bed. As long as there are 4 hours in between, it should be fine.

dementedpixie · 14/02/2021 09:19

And I'd give maybe every 4 hours rather than 6 so 7.30, 11.30, 3.30, 7.30.

chestnutSquash · 14/02/2021 09:19

Having said that, I have always done the 4 times daily as LIZS described. No way would I have woken my child at 4.am.

idontlikealdi · 14/02/2021 09:20

I have never woken my child (or me) for a dose of antibiotics. 4 times a day in waking hours.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 14/02/2021 09:23

My mum always did it evenly spaced out including waking up during the night. It's just how it's done where I'm from. However if we miss one, we just take the next one at the right time .

If you gave her one dose at 7, then it's 6 hours from that and then keep to the new timings.

I have to say, I do them during waking hours or adjust the night ones slightly.
Three times a day though works much better for that.
