6 month old has kidney cysts

Looking for reassurance please. Discovered routinely from a scan that our 6 month old DS has cysts on both kidneys which has come as a massive shock as he seems healthy and full of beans. We have been told more tests are needed to look at kidney function etc. We are worried sick and thinking all sorts. No history in the family. Has anyone positive experiences please? Thanks

Oh I'm so sorry, what a worry! Can I ask why he had the scan?

Wishing him all the best

Thanks @soresore. He had a kidney infection a few weeks ago so it was a follow up appointment to check if there was any underlying issue or it was a one off.

So sorry you're going through this, it is such a worry especially at the moment! My ds was born with a ureterocele in one kidney. A fair amount of scans etc and a procedure back in the summer which, fingers crossed, seems to have worked.

Are you under consultant care for him? Hopefully they will be able to provide reassurance for you Thanks

My DD had a large cystic area in her kidney - it was removed and she has had no problems since. She's now four years post op and get a yearly follow up! She had her first kidney infection when she was nine months old and had several following that but is absolutely fine now.

Thank you @MrsWildermac and @Meeb. It's reassuring to hear of your positive outcomes as I am so scared and thinking all sorts. We aren't that far along yet to be under consultant care and have to have tests so don't know what we are dealing with yet except that apparently he has cysts in both kidneys although they were only found by chance and he seems well in himself. I am hoping we will be given the all clear, told his kidneys are functioning normally and they will just monitor them every few months but I guess that there are more serious outcomes. The waiting is horrible and I just love him so much I am torturing myself. It was a shock as I expected it just to be a routine post infection scan that came back all clear.
