Hi just wondering if anyone’s LO has been in a pavlik harness for their hips and when they got it removed at what degrees. My daughter has been in one for 10wks now she is now 6mnths old. Her hip is at 60-61 degrees which they said is boarder line so want to keep her in it till it’s 62degrees. Just wondering what other people’s experience has been as I get told every time she goes for a scan it will be off next time but it never is and I am worried she will fall behind learning to sit up and crawl etc

Hello,
How are you getting on with your little one and her harness? I'm looking for support as my DD has just been put into a harness at 10 weeks. They said minimum 6 weeks of wearing, but I'm really hoping no longer than that.

DD was diagnosed with hip dysplasia (hips were 48° when born) and was put in the tubingen splint (similar to pavlik harness) at 1 week old.
She is now 13 weeks old and at a recent check up, both hips have made a lot of progress and are considered 'normal' however she will continue to wear it 24/7 until her next check up, when she will go to nights only.
Her doctor explained that it is much more beneficial for her to continue wearing it for a bit longer, while she's young to strengthen her hips.

Can’t remember the nitty gritty details but DD was late to get one, severe in presentation and wore one for a long time and is now a competitive gymnast so I wouldn’t worry about development long term.

Thank you both. My DD only has HDD in her left hip only.
It's been a horrible week with her being really unsettled. Did you find this with your babies?
Did the doctor say how much longer she will have to wear the harness for?

My dd who is now 13 wore her Pavlik harness from 2 weeks to 15 weeks. She was scanned annually until she was 5 when she was discharged. Whenever she cried we blamed it on the harness but in all honesty, she cried as much when it was taken off!!

It's all a distant memory now Daffodil
