3 year scared to eat a week after vomiting

Hi, my 3 year as suddenly stopped eating, he won’t eat anything at all not even any of he’s favourite foods or even sweets which he would never refuse before.

He had some injections a couple of weeks ago he was ok off them but then he vomited twice the next day, from then on he was off he’s food a bit but I thought it was due to he’s injections. Anyway from Thursday he as refused to eat anything at all he keeps saying “sick sick” whenever I offer him any foods. I’ve had him checked over at the dentist and doctors and all is fine, doctors says they can’t do anything because It seems to be physiological. I’m going to speak to my health visitor tomorrow about this.

Was just wondering if anyone has had the same experience with they child and could give me some tips to get him back to he’s normal self

Thanks

No advice but I am in a similar situation but with poo. She got badly constipated and it really hurt her when it finally came out. So now she won't push, is going for days holding it in and is in a right mess. A bit like you I'm at a loss because how do you force them to eat / poo when it's a psychological problem?!

@iamloading, you need a prescription for movicol. It both softens the stool and causes the urge to push. Get it sorted before this turns into a year of hell and misery. I waited too long to get treatment. It's very very common but no fun to sort when they really get used to holding.

OP, for your 3 yr old I think it's very difficult. Slightly tricky age to explain. Maybe keep it simple that tummy is usually very happy but had a grumpy day a few weeks ago and needed to be sick. But now tummy is happy and just hungry. And get them to listen for tummy growling saying 'i want toast' 'i want banana' etc. Try and make it a game about tummy asking your DS for a yogurt. He might join in if it sounds like a fun game but at least it might seed thoughts of recognising hunger and not being scared of food. I'd also downplay getting sick and say it's yukky but no big worry. Isn't tummy smart to tell you when he's not well? Good thing he's all better now. Oh, I can hear him growling! What's he saying?

My 4 yo had meningitis in October
And refused to eat for about 3 weeks after recovering.
When I mentioned this they said when children have been poorly sometimes it's the feel of textures in the mouth
So he was
Offered immune system drinks then built up to yoghurt
After a few weeks he was eating loads again
But still refuses to eat any form of meat
Again they say its texture

Good luck

You could lie and say banana on toast or whatever, is medicine to stop you getting sick. Well, technically in this case, it's true.

My nephew as the same problem as your daughter, he’s been like that since he was a toddler and he is 7 now, hopefully it won’t last that long for your daughter. He takes movicol, which helps him.

I have a few ideas I’m going to try, but I will also try the medicine trick hopefully something will work. Thanks everyone for the advice. I’ve managed to get him to eat Pringles but that’s it, guess it’s a start.

Will he drink milk?
I’d encourage plenty fluids
I always say a little of what you fancy isn’t a bad thing when you’re not well or recovering so maybe some treats although if he’s managed Pringles then you know he’s able to eat. Just offer small amounts often: don’t force or coerce just let it happen and don’t comment about his lack of eating in front of him. I’m sure things will improve over time. If it was a nasty bug then often kids go off food a bit afterwards. I really hope he’s feeling better and back to his old self soon

Yeah he loves milk, he would happily just live on milk or juice lol yeah I’m just going to take eat easy with him and try small stuff amounts. Thinking about taking him food shopping with me and let him pick some food himself see if it helps at all
