Child's Blood Type

Hi,

Does anyone know how I may be able to find out my 2 year olds blood type?
I am A negative, so had anti d injections in pregnancy, but did not have one after my c section. I am not sure if this is because my son is also negative or because he was taking to special care, so my injection was forgotten.
We are thinking of trying for a 2nd child & I know there can be some complications if negative & positive blood have mixed, so would like to try & find his blood type.

Many thanks

In general there is blood sent from the cord to check if there is evidence that immune system has been made sensitive. There is quite a lot of checklisting around this so unlikely it would have been missed, so if you didn't have the injection probably it's that you didn't need it.

You will be eligible for anti-D during subsequent pregnancies anyway, so you will get the protection whatever your first child's blood group is.

Hope that all makes sense.

Agreen with above it is unlikely to have been missed. You will be offered screening at booking with your next pregnancy and this will flag up if you had developed any antibodies but this would be rare.

I'd be pretty surprised if it had been totally forgotten. If the midwives haven't had chance to do it on cord blood, then they get paeds to do it from the baby.
