Teenage acne worsening

Ds is 16 and has been on oral antibiotics for his acne since 2018. He's taken both Lymecycline and Doxycycline (he's currently taking 50mg of the latter a day)

I contacted the GP just before Christmas as his face is now very sore and pretty much covered in spots. Many are now more cystic.

She was unable to see him face to face but said on the phone she was hesitant to try another antibiotic and asked me to send photos in. She has now sent them on to the dermatologist for advice but I have no idea if and when we will hear anything.

The situation is more complicated as Ds has high functioning autism and spends most of his life highly anxious and stressed. He struggles to use topical treatments due to sensory difficulties. He's also severely underweight, so it would be difficult to try change his diet as he barely eats anything as it is.

Due to current situation, I can't see Ds having any NHS input for this for a long long time. I am concerned though that he is beginning to get scarring on his face.

We can pay for a dermatology appointment, but I'm not sure private consultants are even able to see patients at the moment.

I know with the Covid situation we can't do much for him, but is there anything else I can do to help him in the meantime? His face is very sore, bleeding and just so unpleasant for him, especially as he has sensory difficulties.
