MMR causing constipation?

Has anyone found that the MMR immunization causes constipation? My DD had hers just over a week ago, and for the last few days has only been filling her nappy once every two days - she's usually at least once a day, pretty regular (not poo troll BTW).

She's also pretty miserable and clingy which is unlike her, I'm not sure whether that's a side effect too, or because she's constipated! I can't work out if it's all immunization side effects, or whether she's just unwell? I feel really sorry for her ☹️

constipation can be a side effect though its not a common one so nurses probably won't see it as a side effect. It is listed though. Have you called nhs24 for advice?

Haven't called for advice, she's really up and down - she was having loads of fun this afternoon playing with her new toys, and has had a nice day out to the seaside, but just occasionally will have a little cry and is breastfeeding loads. I might see how she is tomorrow and then maybe call for advice, give that she's ok a lot of the time I don't want to waste NHS time if it's just side effects from the imms.

its not wasting time as even side effects are supposed to be reported. if she is under a year old I would call just to be safe because if she has come down with something its best to find out early on.

If she's still pooing and the poo is not solid then it doesn't sound like constipation.

dementedpixie · 27/12/2020 19:37

She won't be under 1 as MMR isn't given until 1+ years

She might be feeling unwell due to the measles part of the vaccine

She's 13 months. And I suppose PP is right, it's not constipation, when she goes she really goes for it! It's just less frequent than usual for her.

Thanks @dementedpixie, she has had some of those side effects (loss of appetite, occasional raised temp) which is why I wondered if the nappy issues were also related. She's been like this for 2/3 days so hopefully she'll start feeling better soon if it's a reaction to the measles element.

Just to update, after 3 or 4 days DD seems loads better in herself, and her nappy issues are resolved, but she's still off her food, she has the measly rash and her sleep is awful. She was regularly sleeping 7pm-6am, last few nights she's been waking loads and last night she was awake and upset for 3 hours in the night, even when I was comforting her, and when she did sleep she only slept for an hour at a time. Haven't seen sleep disturbance as a side effect but it must be related??

This is the first time she's had such a reaction to an immunizations, obviously still loads better than not being vaccinated but I really feel awful for her!
