Your poor dd, it sounds awful

Hope you manage to get some treatment later today

Iwasonceabrownie · 18/12/2020 11:05

My daughters cough was like that, hers went on for weeks until she was given an inhaler. Turns out she had asthma.

Just2MoreSeasons · 18/12/2020 15:44

I had a cough like this last year, turned out I had whooping cough and HIB. Is she up to date with her vaccinations?

bloodywhitecat · 18/12/2020 15:48

Cough variant asthma springs to mind, both of my kids used to cough themselves sick when their asthma was out of control, they seldom (if ever) wheezed.

BiscuitDrama · 18/12/2020 16:03

Croup is helped by steam/ moisture in the air and cold air so take her outside if it’s really bad. Maybe get a £30 humidifier from Argos, take her into a steamy bathroom.

Naz2009 · 18/12/2020 19:41

Thanks to all the mums for your advice today. Appointment went very well @Hartleyhare1206 I've been given steroids.
Gave her 4 once we got home.
She still is coughing but I am hopeful we will have a easy night.
I've been given another 4 tablets to give her tomorrow.
Unfortunately due to the pandemic there is a shortage of the steroid she wanted to prescribe. So she upped the dose by 5mg more and gave 2 days worth with the steroid she knew I wouldn't have trouble getting hold of.

Hartleyhare1206 · 18/12/2020 19:43

Oh well done you!
Mums instincts rule yet again!
Don’t freak out at this bit but steroids can send them loopy....you still might not get much sleep 🤣🤣🤣 at least you know you’re helping her amd she will hopefully be on the mend though! So pleased you saw a decent doctor xxxx

Naz2009 · 18/12/2020 20:29

Thanks for the heads up.
She just threw up, she was coughing so bad. I hope the steroids having all come out with the vomit.
I've opened the bedroom window in her room for now. I read up cold air helps with croup.
She and the humidifier on but it's not giving me nay results yet.

OP posts:
Hartleyhare1206 · 18/12/2020 20:51

How long is it between taking them and vomiting?
I think with oral medication it’s usually considered to be in their system within 30 mins and a repeat dose wouldn’t be required, but don’t quote me on that! It would depend upon the type of steroid given I’m guessing xx

Hartleyhare1206 · 19/12/2020 13:02

@Naz2009 how is she today?

Naz2009 · 19/12/2020 14:59

@Hartleyhare1206 Thank you for checking up.
Another rough night, she had fallen asleep and having the window ajar in her room helped in the begging . Then at 1.30am she was coughing non stop
I had hoped the meds would of kicked in and she would of had less episodes of coughing.
I've administered the last dose of the steroids at 12pm today.
Earlier on she was coughing to the point, she was red in the face and water coming out of her eyes. She then threw up.
Her dads taken her outside for a short walk. Help her breath easy in the cold air and a treat to the corner shop will surely brighten her mood.

windowstothesoul · 20/12/2020 14:13

How did she get on last night?
Hope you are starting to see a slight improvement?

Naz2009 · 21/12/2020 20:03

@windowstothesoul Hi, thanks for asking. I wasn't seeing improvement. Her coughing fits where longer lasting and she was complaining of back and tummy pain. Must be muscle pain from the coughing. Also could see how she was using the last of her energy to cough.
I rang GP first thing and I was given a single dose of 3 tablets of a different steroid to be taken at once.
Since then she has coughed very little and hasn't thrown up so far.
She is fast asleep in her bedroom with the window slightly open to allow the cold air in, to help her breath.
I'm hopeful tonight we can all get a good long night of rest.
I've been in a horrid, snappy mood. Lack of sleep is showing on me.

Naz2009 · 22/12/2020 00:27

DD hasn't coughed and has been sleeping peacefully. I've been coughing for the past 20minutes non stop.
I was asleep and woke up coughing. Could it be I have Croup now. What should I do?

OP posts:
windowstothesoul · 22/12/2020 08:17

@Naz2009 so glad the next Steroids worked for your daughter, breathing & coughing can be scary.

Sorry that you were unwell in the night, did it resolve?

I think your daughter had a negative CoVid test, but if you have a cough you may need one? Do phone 111 or your Gp -

Thinking of you

Naz2009 · 22/12/2020 08:48

I already booked myself in for a Covid test. Today at 9.30 a drive in. Can just never know
I've not been out only to the doctors on Friday with DD.
I've had a sore throat couple days ago and I put it down to lack of sleep.

OP posts:
windowstothesoul · 22/12/2020 18:31

Hope you are feeling a bit better and get some sleep tonight -

Naz2009 · 22/12/2020 20:51

@windowstothesoul thank you.
DD didn't throw up today at all and very little cough.
I've been coughing quiet a bit and now when I cough I make that barking sound same like my daughter was. I think it's croup for me to.

OP posts:
windowstothesoul · 22/12/2020 21:08

So Sorry to hear that you may also have croup - hope the night gives you some sleep & if you struggle with breathing or cough doesn't stop you know to ring 111

Naz2009 · 25/12/2020 08:11

What wonderful Xmas gift to wake up to this morning.
My Covid results come back. It's negative.
My cough has eased by yesterday afternoon.
Another positive news to share is DD is all well and healthy. No longer coughing.
I can't thank all you mum enough for your advice.
