DS(6) has a stinky right ear. It smells a bit like a damp cloth. We noticed it in the summer and the GP checked his ears, but there was absolutely nothing to see of any concern, but still the smell comes and goes. It causes him no bother, and doesn’t feel sore or itchy, and there’s no discharge. His hearing is absolutely fine.
He did have many ear infections as a toddler, lots of perforated ear drums and I do remember a smell then as well so I was surprised when the doctor said there was nothing to see. So what could be causing the smell? He has a bath every day, is healthy otherwise.
