Red spots on DDs face. Eczema?

DD has these spots all over her face. She started with dry irritated skin a couple of weeks ago and we have tried various creams. Last one was cerave which made things worse. Skin alternates between red, sore and dry and now has spots. Dr saw some photos and prescribed nizoral shampoo and an emollient saying it could be fungal. The shampoo unsurprisingly irritated more. It’s really getting her down. Any ideas what is going on please?

Perhaps try sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) free shampoo. Nizoral is high in sulfates so that might be causing the dryness and irritation on forehead and sides of face. It’s actually fairly common for people to react to SLS in shampoo. My 16yo DD does and so uses baby shampoo.

Stop using any face wash. Just use water. Until skin settles down.

The moisturising cream Cerave contains petrolatum which is a known comedogenic that causes blocked pores/spots and so that’s probably why the cream resulted in spots emerging.

You could try something gentler like pure aloe Vera gel which will moisturise and soothe without adding oils to her face.
