6 weeks dirty nappy after every feed!

For almost two full days my 6 week old is doing constant dirty nappies - mood wise she is ok other than looks a bit uncomfortable with wind sometimes mostly after a feed

What can I do while she's so young?

Thank you

She's making room for the next feed. Sounds normal.

I had the same at 4/5 weeks. It should "improve" soon. It's normal as their tummies are tiny and they need to make room for the meal

I had one like this and one who only pooed once a week. There doesn't seem to be any sort of happy medium with babies 😆. I don't think there's anything you can or need to do.

Change her nappy so she doesn't get sore.

She is in the normal range.

Thanks all that's a relief, so it's not diarea? Last week she was maybe doing one dirty nappy a day

Very normal in my experience. Annoying at night though as each feed and then change takes a bloody hour!

kittlesticks · 05/12/2020 09:00

I think it's normal because feeding stimulates the gut, I can distinctly remember this with both of mine.
My youngest also had a tummy bug which was basically her filling her nappy up to 40 times a day. So I'm pretty sure if it's after a feed it's just a normal thing that will change in time.
But obviously ring the health visitor if you're worried!

Mine did this during a growth spurt or when teething oddly enough. It wasn't diarrhoea as it wasn't different to usual in consistency and didn't make the dc sore. It was just a frequency issue. Used to settle down again once the growth spurt was over.

My son was very much “shit and refill” as we called it at that age as well 😂 it’s Normal x

Gumbo · 17/12/2020 16:43

Mine always did this, I assumed it was normal and was utterly baffled by people telling me not to bother changing the nappy after each night feed Confused

So while it's normal for some babies, it would appear it isn't normal across the board - they're all different!
