Hello my son has had eczema in the past and it’s been treated with either cream prescribed by the doctor or aveeno. So 2 days ago my son got this rash on his thigh and leg a small one in his and a little bit bigger on the thigh. So I thought eczema flair up I used the creams I had didn’t work.. so I contacted his doctor who thought it could be a fungal infection and prescribed some cream. I used it for one day and stopped as it made it worse. I’ve now noticed that he has little red patches on his back/arm/leg/thigh.
I don’t know if I’m over worrying here or if I need to take him A&E? Advice please

Can you post a picture of the rash? Is it itchy? Does he have any other symptoms? Temperature?

Chan9808 · 14/11/2020 17:54

No temperature. And how do I post a picture? Sorry new to this

How old is he? My DS (nearly 3) has a similar rash and the pharmacist also thought fungal and said to use an anti fungal cream. So far ours is worse too but I’ve only been using it 24 hours. I am unworried as DS is well in himself, (no fever, eating well, not distressed apart from complaining it hurts) and the rash blanches under a glass. If your DS’s rash is non-blanching or you are very worried about him I would go to a&e, otherwise I would monitor and if no better on Monday maybe call the GP again in case it’s infected eczema and needs antibiotic cream. Could also be a weird viral rash or an reaction to something like washing powder? IME there isn’t a quick fix to eczema. It’s horrible as it’s so uncomfortable for them!

Do you know what, I’ve been on MN for about 8 years and I don’t think I’ve ever posted a pic! SmileThere’s a little paper clip icon underneath the comment box and I imagine that’s how.

I’m not a medic and you know your DS best. If you think there is something really wrong of course take him to a&e, I would always trust your instincts. I think if it was me and the rash disappeared under a glass and he seems his normal self and is eating and drinking normally I’d imagine it’s nothing urgent and I’d probably wait and see.

Chan9808 · 14/11/2020 18:16

Thank you for advice. I’m unable to show you a picture as I’m new it says. I’ve attached a link to where I am able to show on a different website. And again thank you

Sorry we cross posted. It’s hard to tell from a pic but I think it either looks fungal (could be ringworm - that’s not an actual worm, just a type of fungal infection!) or like discoid eczema to me. If he continues to be happy and is eating and drinking with plenty of wet nappies as you say he is in the other post I personally wouldn’t panic at all about this.

I’m not a medic though, please call 111 if you are at all concerned and if you are very worried or there are red flag symptoms then of course go to a&e. Hope it clears up soon!

doctorhamster · 14/11/2020 19:52

If he's otherwise well (no temp, eating and drinking normally, happy in himself etc) you don't need to take him to a&e. Speak to your GP on Monday.
