What do you think of this result? Should we go for biopsy?

If your doctor recommends biopsy then yes, I think you should have it done

Are you under hospital haematology, or are you still with GP?

Katsy0325 · 13/11/2020 08:09

Will have a follow up with our ent in 2 weeks. He initially suggested a biopsy before the ultrasound so I will check with him again once he sees results.

Isn't this saying normal?

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 13/11/2020 11:53

Have they tested for glandular fever?

AnyFucker · 13/11/2020 11:55

That is a normal result.

Speak to your care provider.

Katsy0325 · 13/11/2020 11:57

Our ENT replied just now saying that it is normal and he only recommended biopsy because I am worried. All tests taken so far has been normal like cbc xray and ppd test. we thought that the node was enlarged because it felt big in the neck

I would not put a child through a biopsy after a normal scan result.

What is the rest of the history here ?

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 13/11/2020 13:02

Last year I had quite prominent lymph nodes in my neck. All results are normal. It was said that my neck muscles are pushing them up. If the ultrasound was normal do not ask for a biopsy, its not worth it.

Katsy0325 · 13/11/2020 13:14

It all started when i noticed this lump in her neck, it will going on for 3 months now. She has no symptoms whatsoever apart from her allergic rhinitis and mild dandruff. She had cbc, xray and ppd test for tuberculosis and all are negative. Ent suggested biopsy without having ultrasound first so I went to a different ent, thus the ultrasound results.

Katsy0325 · 13/11/2020 13:52

She is 6 years old.

It sounds as if it is a perfectly normal lymph node and she has no other symptoms why would you need to biopsy

Arrowcat · 13/11/2020 17:41

This is normal.
Just because you can feel them does not mean they are abnormal.
Kids lymph nodes work harder so are often more prominent.
A biopsy will mean GA. Weigh up the pros and cons of that.
If this was worrying they'd be getting bigger and bigger not staying around about the same.
If you're worried ask for another US in 4-6 months. If they are the same then then it's fine. It's only.if they are significantly bigger you need to worry.

Thank you all for your replies, yes I agree, even without the scan results I was very hesitant to have the biopsy for my daughter and I am reassure by this scan now. I was scared at first by the “no fatty hilum” impression but my doctor explained that since the nodes are small, it is hard to see specially in pediatric nodes.

Result says it’s normal so that’s good news

Katsy0325 · 14/11/2020 00:14

Ent says to consults a pedia derma for her dandruff problem before considering biopsy. 2nd Doctor which is a pedia surgeon wants to repeat ultrasound to check thyroid as well. I hope i finally get some definite answers and some reassurance from these doctors. My anxiety is through the roof already, can’t think straight with constant worry

We just found a small lump on 2 yo neck this morning. Calling GP first thing but still worried. Lump is mobile and doesn’t seem to be painful. Prob about 1cm across.

Katsy0325 · 22/11/2020 13:21

The repeat ultrasound showed cervical lymphadenopathy, likely reactive it says. So our pedia surgeon referred us to a pedia pulmo to address my daughter’s allergic rhinitis. Does your kid have any colds or runny nose? I just don’t like this feeling of getting passed on from doctor to doctor. Pedia surgeon said biopsy is still the last resort if it doesn’t go away :(

My DD had several enlarged nodes for years when she was younger. She had normal ultrasound. She also had enlarged tonsils, and snored quite loudly at night. The doctor said that her glands were normal for her, and were particularly noticeable because she was a slight child with a thin neck. She's a healthy 12-year-old now and although I can still just about feel the glands if I poke about, they're no longer visible and she doesn't snore any more either. I think I'd just keep an eye on your DD's nodes for now and consider biopsy if anything changes.

CraftingMama · 22/11/2020 13:48

Thanks so much for replies guys. She’s been sneezing a bit and slight runny nose but nothing major. She’s a chunky kid so def not slight! Although my husband and I did have COVID a few weeks back so now I’m wondering if maybe she was asymptomatic and is still fighting that off...

CraftingMama · 24/11/2020 22:36

So the GP said it’s a benign growth that just needs watching in case it gets bigger or doesn’t go away. I’m still feeling v anxious about it but I lost my dad this time last year to a lymphoma so am probs slightly on the edgy side anyway. I will try and stay calm about it!
