Swollen lymph nodes in neck

Hi, my DD is 6 years old. I noticed this lump on her neck, her cervical nodes around end of august. Her blood work and xray were normal and peds said it is swollen lymph nodes. She is not sick apart from her rhinitis that has been on forever. But it did not go away after 2 types of antibiotics and now ent said she may need biopsy to check what it is. The ent thinks it is reactive but would still want to check. Please if anyone has experience in this do let me know. I havent been sleeping or eating because of it. She also has some dandruff but im not sure if it is related. Its going on 3 months and im scare if she will go through the biopsy.

I have swollen lymph nodes all the time. I normally get a massive painful spot nearby when I have a swollen one (bit random I know). I wouldn't worry too much, mine eventually go down on their own, and another will swell in a few weeks. I currently have one on the back of my neck too, but get one under my chin mostly.

Thanks for your reply tippled pink. I am worried because it will be almost 3 months since i noticed that lump on her, although it is not growing, it has not shrunk either. Some days i thought it was smaller but doctor said its still the same size :(

If it’s not growing try not to worry too much — I had similar but it was growing and was a benign tumour. It does need to be investigated but staff are used to coping with children and your DD will be less affected than you are. Try to present as calm and matter of fact to her and to regard it as more of a nuisance than a worry.
Good luck

I agree with you antonin, am trying my best to remain calm and not show her that i am worried. Also since there really is no change in her behavior, just this lump that i do hope would go away soon.

Hi tippledpink, this is her ultrasound results. I am going back to ent and check if he will still suggest a biopsy after seeing the scan results

Sounds positive?

@Katsy0325 hey its been a while on this thread but just in the hope you might see this can i ask what was the outcome. Going through a similar thing at the moment

Lonestar1988 · 31/01/2026 09:04

@mumof2bambinos I came on here looking for some reassurance too. My Little one has (that look like very large) swollen lymph nodes one on each side under jaw line/below ear/on neck sort of place. He recently had impetigo and doctors weren’t concerned at all and said they are reactive but I can’t stop looking at them. The impetigo cleared up about 10 days ago.
A few months back he had a very swollen one on the side of his neck after an infection and it had pretty much disappeared but shot back up with the bout of impetigo. 2 experienced doctors have told me they can take months to go down sometimes.
has your little one been poorly?

mumof2bambinos · 31/01/2026 10:59

@Lonestar1988 please dont worry about it. My boy had a lymph node enlarged under his jaw side of neck. It was nothing to worry about. Its been there 6 months now. They can take ages to go down
