Cast off after a week?

Hello,

My 14 month old daughter recently fractured her wrist (distal radius with slight displacement). She was put in a half cast, which has just been taken off after only 9 days. Does this seem like the cast was on long enough?? I had expected 3 or 4 weeks. The arm wasn't x-rayed again - it was only done immediately after the fracture - so how do they know it has healed sufficiently to remove the cast? I'm worried about her doing further damage to it. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yes my son had exactly the same injury he's 2 in December. He had his cast removed on Friday just gone. They originally planned to remove it the Friday before but following an X-ray and him still being in pain. It was left on a further week. He did 3 weeks in total. Can you call fracture clinic and query? Is she moving it ok?

Thanks for replying @Shipwrecked2019

She's moving it fine - holding and lifting things, and using it to push herself up. Doesn't appear to be in any pain. The consultant we spoke to kept emphasising how fast they heal at this age - but I'm naturally worried, especially as she's still so wobbly when walking at the moment!
