Lump in 2 year olds neck (pics includes)

This is my friends child who is 2 and a half. When he talks this lump comes up in his neck.
She assumed it's veins but I wasn't sure.

It actually looks a bit more prominent in real life but this was the only pic I could get.

(I have permission to put this up)

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be

Possibly a lymph node. One of my twins has one that’s stuck around for ages - his paediatrician always checks it out when we see her as it never seems to go down, but she isn’t concerned by it. Definitely worth checking out.

(Should add I can’t see the photo).

Sorry trying to add a pic

I can't see the photo but one of my twins had a lump that looked like a lump of blue veins it was on her chest. Turned out to be a Hemangioma but under the skin so it looked blue not red. It is basically a collection of blood vessels and above the skin would present as a strawberry birth mark. Apparently they are usually on the upper body and disappear by the time they start school. We did have to have a scan though to double check it wasn't something more sinister.

@SinkGirl @clareykb thanks both for the replies. I just commented with a pic. Can you see it?

No pic yet...

LeroyJenkinssss · 17/10/2020 13:22

Pic still not showing but regardless almost all of these things are nothing but require checking out. A randomer on t’internet saying it’s x or y isn’t helpful and is only false reassurance which should come from someone who has examined her child.

Mysa74 · 17/10/2020 13:23

Has he always had the lump when he talks or is it new?

When my little boy was younger, his jugular vein would really stand out if he cried etc.

To me that looks like two circular lymph nodes but I think your friend needs to get this looked at by a medic and to assess why they are enlarged.

Hope he’s ok

notanotheronepleasee · 17/10/2020 14:20

@Missmiller yes that's what she thinks that is! Thank you

Definitely get checked out - it’s common for children to get enlarged lymph nodes when fighting off a virus (which lets face it is most of the time for toddlers) but they are quite enlarged so it’s definitely worth getting it looked at / monitored.

Mysa74 · 22/10/2020 14:25

Any news op? After seeing the pic I'd guess at lymph nodes too, bit I'd be concerned if it's only on one side. I hope they took him to the GP?

notanotheronepleasee · 22/10/2020 15:12

@Mysa74 thanks for asking. She has an appointment tomorrow. I will let you know what they say. It actually looked so much bigger and worse in person. And it pulsed out when he spoke

My daughter has had a pea size lump in the side of her neck since she was a baby. Took her to GP who referred us to pediatrics. They confirmed it was innocent and it may eventually go away or just be part of her. Still it is important to get it checked.

Fallowdeerhunter · 24/10/2020 17:32

What did they say?

notanotheronepleasee · 26/10/2020 11:22

The doctor said it is completely normal, it's to do with oxygen and straining and jugular veins. Thanks for the help and concern everyone

That’s really good news!

Fallowdeerhunter · 26/10/2020 18:06

Excellent news!

Phew! Thanks for the update... I don't like to think of little people being ill xxx
