Sharp Hip Pain Shooting - 14YO

Hiya MNs,

My DS 14 has come home from school today limping. He has said he had sudden sharpe shooting pain in his hip and down his leg. He is sporty but hasn't been injured to my knowledge and he said he didn't do anything to cause it today. We have checked there nothing out of the ordinary, no marks nothing. This has never happened before but he has recently in the last month started a new sport which is squash. Could this cause it? Im going to see how he is over the next few days with plenty of pain killers if he needs it but its not constant pain. Thanks

If it continues you might like to get him checked for hip impingement. I got to age 34 (a year after becoming quite actively hiking) before getting symptoms, which were sudden sharp shooting pains, especially at night. Of course it could be any number of other issues (trapped nerve perhaps) but if it persists then worth mentioning to a go to check for impingement.
