Scratching neck and pulling hair

Hey everyone,

I just wondered if anyone has the same issues, my son 17 months old scratches the back of his neck constantly and draws blood every time. Everyone always comments on it and I try to stop him doing it but then he just starts pulling his hair around that area too.
I’ve checked there are no clothes tags bothering him, we’ve never changed laundry detergent so he’s had fairy since he was born. I wouldn’t say it’s eczema as he doesn’t have dry skin there. I thought maybe he did it when he was tired but I’m not sure it’s that either. Just wondered if anyone else had this too? What was the outcome? Am I missing something really simple thats annoying him?

I’ve tried GP and he wasn’t very helpful.. wouldn’t even see him as no patients in the surgery unless necessary. Any suggestions :)

Thank you

Hi, I have just posted about hair loss in my toddler. Apparently a common cause can be ring worm... on the scalp it doesn’t present as your typical red ring. I’d maybe try some canastean cream twice a day and see if it helps, it won’t do any harm anyway! Hope he’s sorted soon.

Have you checked for nits? Back of the neck is one of their favourite spots.

Dry skin doesn’t always present as red so it could be lack of water or fish oils in diet.

But I’m not an expert just basing that on my Celtic family skin.
