Son struggling to sleep

KunekuneKristmasCake · 08/10/2020 10:02

My ten year old has struggled to sleep for the last few years. We have tried earlier bedtimes, dimmed lights, no screens, more exercise, chamomile tea and warm milk drinks, soothing music, boring stories, lavender pillows - he struggles to sleep until around 11pm and is up at 6.

He wakes several times in the night and has permanent bags under his eyes.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might cause this or something he can take to sort his sleep pattern?

Do you think he'd like a weighted blanket?

My DS doesn't sleep well and has to take melatonin

Mine is 7 and always been like this. Going through autism assessment at the moment and consultant has said we have to fill sleep diary in then she will prescribe melatonin.

Have you tried melatonin?

He throws all his bedding off but I could look into it. Could think about Melatonin too. Thanks for the ideas :)

One of my twins is like this, he's 13 now, it takes ages for his brain to switch off, headspace for kids has helped but he also likes the noise of something playing, mostly words.
I might see if he'd like a weighted blanket actually, good suggestion

You could also try a sensory sheet, they're stretchy so I believe wrap around the bed to almost pin the child in. I'll see if I can find a picture!

Google sensory sheet and a few websites come up x
