Any doctors here? Ear pits/syndromes

My little girl is 5 weeks old and I've noticed she has posterior helical ear pits, the world of google has caused me to worry that it could be linked to one of the 3 rare syndromes that ear pits are connected with. Is there any chance that she could JUST have ear pits and be absolutely fine? I'm going to get her seen asap but just wanted to seek some professional advice too as it's so hard to get an appointment with covid!

Particular pits, can be linked to lots of different syndromes.
However they can also be completely innocent, with no other significance
My ds has ear pits, and has a genetic condition
I have one ear pit, and have no genetic condition or health issues (and as part of general genetic investigations for ds, th and I have both had genetic testing)

Unless there are other concerns about health or development, as time goes on, then I wouldn't worry.

Absolutely yes, not just a chance but actually more likely that not. Pits and creases in newborns are actually quite common. I would expect other markers to be present and/or a family genetic history if it were serious. You obviously realise that nobody can tell you for definite one way or the other, but it is highly unlikely that there is anything to worry about at all.

Particular pits should be 'preauricular pits! Sorry.

My DS has one too. I've never been concerned by it. I just thought it was part of him, each of my children have a couple of genetic quirks/birth marks that just fascinated rather than worried me. Like your DD, my son's is on the posterior of the ear whereas they are mostly on the front near the ear hole.

Should I be worried...? The bit of reading I did about it before didn't really throw up anything

One of my girls has a pit on one ear and my niece has one of each ear, no other genetic issues or development delays

Thank you so much for your replies! I was struggling to find any info on children who have pits without it being linked, hence my initial panic. It's good to hear other people's experiences, I had never heard of them before and thought they were cute little dimples! She is happy and healthy and there are no other symptoms that could link her to having some kind of syndrome, I will mention it at her 6 week check and hopefully put my mind to rest.

Hi - I was wondering if there was any update from anyone? Did anyone’s LO’s have hearing impediments?
My son has one posterior helical pit on his right ear and I’m worried (google isn’t very optimistic)

@Bupkis - I notice you mentioned preauricular; do any of you have PHEP?

TIA!
