Dettol spray nightmare

I turned my back for 1 min and my 2 year old got hold of the Dettol spray and put it in her mouth and sprayed! I had just prayed some toys and put it on the table, was taking things to the kitchen....about 3 steps away and BOOM! It's on her gob! I feel awful Washed her mouth out and gave her a big bottle of milk in hope it will be flushed away. I tried calling 111 and can't get through (covid!) tried calling the number on the side of the bottle and the offices are closed. Used a tool online called poison control which takes you through questions to see if you need treatment. It says to wash our mouth, drink fluids and keep an eye on child for vomiting/feeling unwell. Only then should I need to take her to a&e. She seems fine in herself, went down for her nap and I keep checking on her every few mins. Has anyone else been through this? Will she be ok? Do I need to go to a&e? I feel like such an awful parent right now.

Ah, I'm sorry this has happened I can imagine you are worried. Please don't feel guilty - these things happen to us all.
I'm sure someone will be along who knows more but to me it sounds like you have taken the right actions.

If you are in Ireland (or even if you are not) ring the National Poisons Information Centre - they’re in Facebook and they’re amazing. Number is 00 353 (0) 1809 2166

@TwinkleMerrick how are you getting on?

TwinkleMerrick · 12/09/2020 19:35

Hi everyone, thanks for your messages. She has been absolutely fine. Ate all of her dinner, drank another bottle of milk and plenty of water. Ran me ragged all afternoon playing. I'll keep checking her through the night, might sleep in her room to make sure.

My ds did something similar.....sounds like you've done all the right things...maybe bath n shower for more water....and I would sleep in as well....just in case she is sick...

Jedstre · 12/09/2020 19:57

She probably only ingested a tiny amount from one spray. You’ve done all the right things.

Foobydoo · 12/09/2020 20:02

If you read the bottle, does it tell you what to do if ingested?
Some even have a helpline?
Im sure dettol used to state it was safe to use on fruit and veg. So hopefully it is not too bad if ingested.

Definitely supportive of your idea to sleep in her room. Glad she is being her normal self! X

Update, I slept in her room and she is fine. Woken up this morning hungry for her breakfast and happy as Larry. Thanks again for your support xx
