My 11yo ds came home from school yesterday with dark red non-blanching spots on his arms, torso and legs - not that many, probably 10 altogether. My friend is a paediatrician, so we got an appointment with her and she diagnosed HSP. Ds has no fever and no pain; he said his tummy was hurting at football practice at the beginning of the week, and on Wednesday (so before the rash) he said his ankles hurt, but that's all gone away.
I've read some scary stories (on here too) and I don't know quite what to expect. My doctor friend seemed to think it was likely he could just be having a mild version of it; some sites I've read say the stomach pains and vomiting etc. typically start a week after the rash. He's completely fine and jolly at the moment - spots just a bit itchy - but I'm so worried for him that he might be in so much pain this time next week!
I know there's nothing I can do other than keep an eye on him for now, but I feel really anxious and I suppose am braced for him to have an awful time of it 
I'd be grateful to hear from anyone whose dc had a not too awful experience with this. (Also - what is the typical progression; is there a typical progression?)
