Toddlers penis swollen on one side

Hi all,

He's already on his way to A&E with his dad, but I'm just wondering if anyone has an idea of what it could be?

My son went to the potty and when he sat down I noticed his penis looked swollen, he seemed to take a while before he started to wee so I'm not sure if that's because it's painful for him or not. I also noticed 3 red tiny dots on the side that it is swollen, but nothing else.

He's 2 if that helps!

Balanitis?

Elmo311 · 12/09/2020 13:56

Hi, thanks for responding!

Turns out it was Balanitis, and after a couple of days on antibiotics it's already much improved!
What a relief!

The Dr said chances are it will reoccur, and if so they'd recommend to circumcise him.

You DO NOT have to circumcise for balanitis this is the first time he’s had it?! That’s nonsense. Are you uk?
My son has had this a handful of times , usually from him trying to retract his foreskin. When he left alone it stopped .
I asked about circumcision and was told it’s in no way necessary unless a very tight foreskin etc. It’s an infection. I wouldn’t be talked into that at all.
I hope he’s better now it tends to improve pretty quickly with medicine

Hi op, does he also have phismosis? If so it might be why the dr was so quick to mention circumcision.

Elmo311 · 12/09/2020 20:58

@Runforyourlifeitsagherkin Yes we are in the UK.
Apparently the Dr was quite blasé when he mentioned it (circumcision) so hopefully it's just something that sometimes happens, but won't be necessary!

My son is already much better, he is having so much yogurt as the antibiotics taste rancid!

@IHateCoronavirus Love your username!

The Dr didn't mention Phismosis, but if it happens again I'll definitely ask about it.

Thank you

Doctors are always so eager to circumcise boys, when there are often other less permanent solutions. My husband was diagnosed with a tight foreskin as a teenager.

Doctors recommended circumcision. Instead he spent a few months slowly stretching the skin and within hardly any time the issue had gone and he's had no issues since.
