How to disguise Movicol (chocolate flavour)

Hi everyone. I’ve googled and read old threads on here but I’m still at a loss as to how to get my daughter to take this Movicol.

Long story short, my 2 yr old DD stood up to get out of the bath and did a pop and gave herself a shock and ever since she’s been trying to withhold her poos and has been quite distressed when she’s finally doing them, leaning back or bracing her whole body to try and stop it from happening whilst straining to do it. She has recently returned to her playschool where they actually commented last week that she’d been quite upset and holding onto the furniture trying to go but bracing herself so she actually didn’t.

I called the dr and was prescribed Movicol chocolate but the big obstacle here for us is that she will only drink water. She’s never been interested in fruit juice (even though she eats lots of fruit) won’t entertain squash or any other drink.

Every other thread I’ve read mainly focuses on success found in adding it to flavoured drinks so I was wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience and had any suggestions of anything I could try.

Thanks in advance

To be honest, I would just ask for the plain Movicol. My dd has been on it for years, but started around age 4. She has only ever drunk water, and is very funny about flavours, but is fine with the plain Movicol.

Thanks 😊 That’s exactly what I was thinking but I didn’t want to waste it and thought I’d see if there were some solutions on here first.

The chocolate movical is the worst in my opinion. It does not taste like chocolate

The main think I remember is don’t put it in milk. Doesn’t work it mixed with milk

Tried the plain and the orange one with DD. In the end the only thing that worked was the orange one in orange juice. But when she was two she just screamed and spat it out, it took a long time to get used to it

She was also prescribed lactulose which is a sweet medicine and she was much happier taking that

Yeah, ask for the plain one. We have similar issues.

Yeah she just said “urgh it’s disgusting” when I asked her to try a little bit 🙈

My dc has the plain one and I put a little blackcurrant cordial in it, He drinks it no problem

Plain mixed in water then add vimto works for us. We where given chocolate once. She wouldn't drink it. I had to go back and get it changed!!

My 2 year old is also a withholder and has been on movical since June .
We have the plain one, apparently the choc one is awful .
I mix it with 63 mls of water and then put it in a bottle or beaker of milk and she drinks it no problem.
At one stage she was on 8 a day so had to come up with other ideas.
Mixing the dose up and adding it to jelly went down very well. She did have jelly a few times a day for 3 days but whatever works .
There is a fb group called movical mummies. They are excellent for advice and they will have lots of tips for you .
Good luck !

Thanks everyone. I have just joined that Movicol mummies group but I reckon the way to go is the plain one.

I echo the pp. Try the plain. My daughter didn't drink the plain even in water. It is slightly salty. I have had more success mixing it with apple juice.
Good luck
