Is this necrosis?!

Daughter prescribed aN antibiotic cream today for infected patch on her leg. Just gone to put it on at bed time and it looks terrible. There are black bits so now I’m worried about necrosis and infection spreading and sepsis (I catastrophise a lot).

My gp surgery does online assessment now so I’m going to send another picture to them so they will see it first thing. Just wondered what peoples thought were.

I'm not a doctor, so please do ask a trained professional. But to me it does just look like it's scabbing over?

Readysetcake · 02/09/2020 19:28

Here it is finally

I really don’t know....maybe call 111

RedCatBlueCat · 02/09/2020 19:32

It's not particually clear, but has she been wearing black tights or trousers today?

nomorespaghetti · 02/09/2020 19:33

Poor thing, it looks sore. I’d try to get it seen. My daughter once got cellulitis in her foot (from a tiny blister!) and it was the worst pain she’s ever been in. The gp looked at it and sent us straight to a&e! It cleared up really quickly with oral abs. Is she in pain with it?

Readysetcake · 02/09/2020 19:36

I will be asking my GP again as stated in my OP.
No black tights or trousers. Hopefully it’s just scabs. Just hope the cream works quickly.

@nomorespaghetti She says it’s sore but only if you touch it. Otherwise she doesn’t mention it. This started as a tiny blister too but I hadn’t thought of cellulitis. She’s asleep now so will check in morning and contact GP again to make sure cream is enough.

Good idea. My daughter was in extreme pain even when it wasn’t being touched at all. You’re doing the right thing with the pen marking out the redness, and fingers crossed the cream will get to work quickly Flowers

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 02/09/2020 19:49

It does not look worrying to me, it will be scabs forming. I would have thought it would be angry red looking if it was going wrong. Salt water bathing is really helpful along with the cream. Obviously keep a close eye though!

Readysetcake · 02/09/2020 20:00

Oo thanks for the salt water tip @EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide. I forgot that was a thing!

My ds gets an infected finger a lot, as he has a habit of biting it, when it starts looking red I make him soak it in warm really salty water and its magically much better the next day!

necrosis is really smelly. and really painful.
it does look like a scab to me.
but if in doubt get it seen by a hcp.

Indoctro · 02/09/2020 20:06

I got a large area of necrosis on my lower leg, it went from looking like a bruised area to black over night in my bed and totally painless , had to get it cut away and graft over. It developed extremely quickly

Indoctro · 02/09/2020 20:08

This is not true at all, mine never hurt at all and wasn't smelly either.? It developed overnight when I was asleep, prior to it turning black it was a large deep purple bruised area
Readysetcake · 02/09/2020 20:22

Oh @Indoctro that looks so painful! You poor thing. Do they know what caused it? Sounds like the onset is totally different to my DD. I hope you’re over this now?

Indoctro · 02/09/2020 20:35

My leg was crushed 3 weeks before , slowly bruised then eventually turned necrotic.

Indoctro · 02/09/2020 20:39

This was from start to finish over 3 weeks

Sorry if any one is squeamish Confused

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 02/09/2020 20:43
