Wetting eyes

My six year old for the past several months is constantly wetting his fingers and then sticking them in his eyes, He says they feel dry and tired.
They do on occasion look red( but sticking his whole finger in there won't be helping!)
I have taken him to get them tested and he is fine and no signs of dryness.
I have got him on piriton medicine but do not see any real difference.
Not really sure what more we can do?
Any ideas?
Thank you

Okay, for the time being get some hypromellose drops from the pharmacist.

If they sting at all - ask them to order in some minims of hypromellose.
It's not usual for children to have dry eye without an underlying condition.

Does your son have any little white spots between the coloured and white part of his eye?

Thank you for your reply.
He is always wetting his eyes and I think this is not helping.
The chemist would not sell us any drops because they said he is to young.
When he had his eyes tested they checked them over and said everything was fine and no sign of any concerns or dryness.

I'd take him somewhere else for a second opinion. He's unlikely to be making it up.

I have ordered some of those drops to try.
I will monitor and take him elsewhere if need be..
