Teenager Not Eating

Hi. I have a 14 year old who recently is struggling to eat.

We thought it was an intolerance to start with to dairy, but it is just food in general.

She has never been a big eater and has been quite picky but recently she is struggling to eat. If she does eat it makes her feel sick and nauseous. It seems like a catch 22 situation.

I don't know what to do. I am trying to get them to eat little and often and obviously making sure they drink regularly but even that is a struggle.

I'm not sure if it is stress related, but it is worrying.

Thanks

TRS79.

Yes, that's concerning, and I think you need to seek help. In the first instance you need to have a chat with your GP, without your daughter being present. Tell the GP what you've told us then take it from there. The sooner this is tackled, the better.

I remember being like this at that age and it was crippling anxiety I just didn’t know what it was at the time. It’s important in the meantime to maybe get her to take vitamin supplements so she doesn’t become deficient. Could it be going back to school that’s making her worry?
