Osteomyelitis

I’m looking to hear people’s experiences of treatment and recovery of Osteomyelitis. My son (8) was in hospital for 16 nights during which they diagnosed him with a pvl positive staph infection which caused osteomyelitis in his shin bone. He was given antibiotics (flucloxicilin and clindomycin) via iv for 2 weeks, then discharged and moved to orals for 2 -4 weeks. After 2 weeks of the oral a/b he got another temperature so spent 5 more days in hospital on iv antibiotics and has now been on linizolid (oral a/b) for 2 weeks (which stopped today). He is clinically well and is able to walk now with only a small limp. His last mri (2 weeks ago) still showed extensive osteomyelitis in his bone. We have another one arranged in 2days time. Can anyone share with me their experiences? It seems to be that the treatment routes are a bit hit and miss and no one can determine how long he should be on antibiotic for, or how long it’ll take to be gone completely. I’d love to hear about people’s treatments and recovery time frame. Thanks

Hi, I can’t help much, but my dad had osteomyelitis as a child, this was 70 years ago! At the time it was very touch and go as to whether he’d lose his leg. Luckily he recovered with no lasting damage. It must be very worrying for you..
