Cyclical vomiting syndrome

DS (11) seems to have developed this. It's a classic picture and is undergoing tests, but it looks most likely. He has vomited and retched about 50 times today and can't keep a teaspoon of water down. The pattern seems to be 12 hours like this then symptoms stop. He's had cyclazine, ondansoteon and diazepam to reduce the symptoms without any affect.

Does anyone have any advice on this awful condition?

Hi, don’t have much advice but can sympathise. My ds had this from around age 7. Didn’t last as long but he would wake around 6 am then be sick for 4 or 5 hours, sleep and then be fine. It could happen every few weeks to few months. Stopped suddenly age 16 (he’s 20 now).

He had ondansetron but I’m not sure if it helped. I think it’s best to treat as soon as he feels any symptoms. There’s some evidence that suggest supplements such as co enzyme Q10 help.

We were never really able to identify any triggers but for some people they are similar to migraine triggers.

Sorry to hear you’re going through this, it is awful when it’s happening.

Thank you. We will look at that supplement. Anything to help. He finally stopped vomiting at 5 am and didn't sleep until then. Giving him loads to drink now as he hasn't peed since yesterday.

What a shame, that’s some day you’ve both had. Have you looked on the cyclical vomiting syndrome association site, www.cvsa.org.uk. I contacted them at one point for advice before my son was diagnosed as GP didn’t seem to be taking it seriously and they recommended he was seen by a paediatric gastroenterologist who then did tests, prescribed medication etc
