So we have tried different things with ds3 - bands, sitting in middle seat, etc but think anti sicknesses medication is the way to go.

So he is 10 years old - any recommendations. Thanks

I use Boots own brand, the active ingredient is Cinnarazine.

Have always worked for us.

GemSmith738 · 24/07/2020 18:20

phenergan is the best I have for travel sickness.

Ylvamoon · 24/07/2020 18:25

I used Kwells for my older DC a few years ago. Not sure what the active ingredient is but it worked for us ... the good news is they make DC drowsy so no "are we there yet!" from the backseat!!

stitchandbitch101 · 24/07/2020 18:29

Cinnarizine and phenergan both work for me. Unsure if able to use if for a child so check with the pharmacist. They really changed my life!

lorisparkle · 24/07/2020 19:12

Thanks so much - he did say he would be happy with something that makes him sleepy - perhaps I should dose up ds1 and ds2 for a quiet car journey!!!

The ones that knock you out for 5 hours 😂

JewelTheft · 24/07/2020 19:22

Joy rides if it's an occasion you don't want him to be sleepy, or phenergen if it doesn't matter so much

papillion2 · 25/07/2020 20:41

I had dreadful travel sickness as a child - for me the best ways to deal with it were sucking on mints, and listening to music through headphones.

The name phenergen sounds familiar, if it's the same stuff my mum used to give me then it worked well, but tasted so awful I'd have rather been sick instead!

Stylinson · 27/07/2020 16:59

Phenergan works for my two very very travel sick children

Makes them a tiny bit drowsy sometimes but nothing major

lorisparkle · 27/07/2020 18:46

Thanks, I was wondering how drowsy it makes them. We have a car journey - a ferry - then another car journey. He needs to get out of the car for the ferry journey (and we have a dog) so need him to be able to walk independently!

I give my son (age 4) phenagen just one spoonful a few hour’s before a long journey and he’s fine with it . Either goes to sleep or stays awake and is totally fine when we arrive at destination.

onlyconnect · 27/07/2020 19:11

My DS used Phenegan but could stay awake in it. Sometimes he snoozed but not really heavily. He now refuses to take it as he doesn't like the taste so I'm watching this thread with interest.

Millie2013 · 27/07/2020 19:16

Another one watching the thread. DD started with travel sickness early, so nothing licensed and GP advised piriton, which worked. We then tried her with an OTC drug, that she had a bad reaction to, so we’re back on the piriton.

Shieldingending · 28/07/2020 18:28

Anything with the active ingredient hyocine works for me and DD. Phenergen was prescribed for her when she was younger but it does make them drowsy
