Newborn rash

Hi everyone,

I’m a new mum, my daughter is 4 weeks old.
She’s developed a rash on her face, head and neck and I was wondering if anyone knows what it could be?

I used a child’s farm shampoo on her and I think she may have had a reaction to it. But just wanted to check it wasn’t anything else?

Thanks x

How long has she had the rash?

Is she well in herself?

Drinking, weeing, pooing?
Less sleepy? Different cry?

In a baby that young I would want my HV or GP to check. May well be the shampoo but keep a close eye overnight for any other symptoms.

They're probably milk spots rather than a shampoo reaction, but I can't tell from the photo. You need to see a real life HV or GP, but from
What I can tell you don't need to panic.

Looks like maybe a viral rash. I’d go to doc just because your baby is so young. Not because it looks concerning. How is she in herself? Temp, pooing, weeing, feeding ok?

She’s had the rash for 3 days now. I had a phone call with the doctor the day it appeared who prescribed some steroid cream but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

She’s fine in herself.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. I will call the doctor again tomorrow x

Unless it’s itching I wouldn’t want to put steroids on my baby. I’d just leave it. Talk to doc again and see what they say. I think some docs just prescribe by default rather than say ‘don’t worry about it it’ll go away on its own’
