Ear tubes

So my 2.5 year old got tubes put in both ears a year ago. After his ear tubes, he still got ear infections. Had appointment with audiologist at the ENT office for his hearing test - he passed the hearing test. But the audiologist said one tube is clogged with wax and the other is crooked! The ENT is going to call me this week to follow up.

My question is how on earth could my little one pass the hearing test with a clogged tube? Could he have passed the hearing test even if the sounds were muffled? I am worried about this because my little guy has a speech delay and I am afraid the blocked tube could be affecting his speech. Any insight is greatly appreciated:)
