Nearly 7yo bowel issues? Ibs? Intolerance?

My nearly 7yo goes for a poo each day around bedtime and again about two hours later.
But each takes around 20mins. Lots of straining but then the poo Is soft and gassy and explosive (but not as soft as diarrhoea). He doesn’t complain of any pain (but he is generally stoic).
He really doesn’t want to go to the doc so although I could force him it wouldn’t be a very productive consultation.
Any suggestions????

If you go to the dr first thing they'll want to know is what his diet is like, I would keep an accurate food/drink(incl water)/stool diary for a week before going. Writing it down might help you identify things yourself, or show the dr his diet is ok.

Is he likely to be eating way too much of anything sugar/fibre/fatty foods (incl milk)? Excessive gas could be from sugars (including too much fruit/juice) or sweeteners like xylitol and waking him up as uncomfortable.

Consider a fructose intolerance.
