Lost a tooth

My son will be 5 in September, he has lost a front bottom tooth and the one next to the lost one is wobbly. I noticed it looked slightly out of it place, but he wasn’t bothered by it at all. Then we saw it had gone.

He may have had a bash on his face, he jumps around a lot sometimes falls falls. We honestly don’t know exactly how it happened or if that is what happened. It may just be it was ready to come out.

We spoke to the dentist and she said it’s nothing to worry about, that some children do start to loose baby teeth around 5, and he may have a gap for a while but to just wait for his adult tooth to grow, and he shouldn’t have any problems.

Obviously we trust the dentist but looking online it says it’s usually around 6 they loose the first tooth.

I guess what I’m asking is does anyone have experience? Has anyones child lost a tooth around 5? Part of me wants to do the tooth fairy, put the tooth in his first tooth box and be proud of this milestone, if it could be normal for this to happen at my sons age. But I also feel like the worst mum ever for this happening. The dentist was very kind and said accidents happen to many children and at his age he may have been ready for it to come out anyway.

Thanks for reading.

Did he get his first teeth quite early? 5/6 is the usual age to lose them

My son lost his first tooth a week before his 5th birthday. When he came to tell me it was wobbly I freaked out too, as I thought he'd knocked it. But the dentist told me that some children do lose them earlier than 6, and my husband also lost his early and his teeth are fine now.

My son has lost his 2nd tooth now (2 months later) and both his adult teeth have come through no problem.

My daughter lost 2 front teeth at 4.5 years old in nursery and managed to swallow the first one! She continued to lose teeth early but there’s no issue other than needing a more grown up toothpaste for ‘big teeth’ as we didn’t think about that and she needed a deep clean as early toothpaste wasn’t effective.

DD is 5 the end of July, she has one very wobbly tooth at the bottom and another that has just started to wobble.

My older DD lost teeth not long after turning 5 and at 10 only has a couple of molars left to come out where the avg age is 12 for these and there doesn't seem to be any issues with the adult ones coming through
