Diarrhea in newborn

Hi - not sure if anyone has any advice or can help a stressing first time mum.

Our little bundle was born just over 7 weeks premature. She is home now and just past what would of been her due date. All was going well until about 10 days ago when she started getting diarrhea. She is in SMA prem 2 formular which is prescribed and has been taking it for weeks so dont think it can be affecting her tummy. Her poop is basically like smelly dark green hot chocolate....

I took her to the dr who basically said not to worry and prescribed dioralyte. Ive been giving her about 35mm every time she poops but bless her she is still pooping water basically which is making her so upset. I've treated her sore bum which looks alot better but nothing seems to be stopping the diarrhea...

Is it just a case of waiting it out until things calm down ans goes back to normal or should I be doing something more? Hate seeing her in pain and not being able to do anything about it :(

My breast fed newborns always had runny, smelly poo. Might be different for bottle fed babies.

She could be starting teething at 12 weeks which can cause a sore bum.

I'd keep a very close eye and dont hesitate to take her in again if it doesnt stop really soon. Poor wee mite.

Thank you :) - shes just 7 weeks old at the mo so dont think it could be teething....

Her poops were more like peanut butter then all of a sudden changed :(

I don’t know much about bottle fed babies as I breastfed so may be different. But when my babies poos changed suddenly at this age it was due to a dairy allergy xx

If babies get stomach bugs they have diarrhoea long after the actual bug has gone. My dd had diarrhoea for months after a little bug we'd all had. The paediatrician said something about the lining of their stomachs being sensitive afterwards

Thank you - she is so clingy and upset it's just worrying. The joys of being a first time mum :)

@pinkiebrain82 newborns are very stressful because they seem so delicate and fragile. As long as the fontanelle isn't sunk they're usually ok. You can always take a stool sample to the dr and ask them to check it.
