Anyone have experience of balantitis in children.
My son has had it for ages now. We got given cream and there was no improvement over 2 weeks so went back to gp and got a new cream. 2 weeks later and there is still no improvement again.

What treatment did other children have?
How long should it take to get better?!

My DS had a few episodes of this (partly due, I think, to corrective surgery for hypospadias leaving everything more sensitive). Baths/showers every day without fail seems to be the answer (water, not soap)- you have to get your son to be absolutely scrupulous about hygiene.

Also shop around for soft underpants without seams (next are quite good, as are primark - M&S are a bit rubbish). You may also find he's more comfortable in soft tracky bottoms rather than jeans/trousers. Basically avoid anything that might chafe.

Good luck - it's awful for them, poor things. (My namechange is simply because it's DS's private medical history, so I tend to keep posts about this separate from my main posting history for his confidentiality).

Thank you.
We have been daily washing but his forskin doesn’t come far back and seems to be attached at one point. Do you mind me asking how long it took to clear up? My son has been dealing with his for 6 + weeks and he is weeing so frequently it’s starting to make him sad.

Did your son’s clear up just with cream or did you need other medication.

I’ve no idea how he will manage when he is back at school...

Hi, I hope you have resolved the issue but in case you haven't, and to anyone that maybe looking for a cure for balanitis, this is it:

The key is to wash with water (not soap) under the foreskin before bed and dab it dry. Then generously drip organic lavender oil undiluted under the foreskin and round the head of the penis. It might cause a slight tingle but works wonders as an anti fungal. All the best :)
