Pink tooth after injury

Hi,
My 10 year old son just tripped and banged his bottom tooth, 3rd from the front on the corner of the skirting board 😳 he’s took a chip out of the tooth in the middle at the front.
His tooth turned pink straight away.... does anyone know what this is?
I’ve called the dentist but they obviously aren’t seeing anyone, the receptionist said a dentist would call me back but not heard anything yet.
I’m not sure if it is a baby tooth or not, is there anyway to tell?
I’m worried about him getting an infection or an abscess or the tooth dying.
It’s so difficult not being able to go to a dentist now and not knowing what to do!
Thanks

Hi OP dentist here

A tooth turning pink is quite common after trauma. It is basically like a bruising of the tooth. It is normally temporary. It can go pink then grey then back to normal. I normally wouldnt be too concerned about pink

Is it the canine? If so its hard to tell if at 10 it would be a baby tooth or an adult. If you can get a picture I can say. Normally baby teeth are whiter and smaller than adult teeth.

Any tooth that has had a knock risks the tooth dying, you want to keep an eye out for grey discolouration that persists, pain or formation of an abscess or gum boil next to the tooth.

If it is a baby tooth it will fall out soon so i would just leave it unless it gets infected. If its an adult tooth and it dies it will need root canal.

It really needs an xray, dental hubs should treat children with trauma as you want to check the root of the tooth. Your dentist shoild be able to refer you

It could also be that its a baby tooth ready to come out and the gums have bled under the tooth making it appear pink

If you can post a picture I can help more

Thats a baby tooth. (His baby first molar)

It looks like the gums have bled under the tooth and made it appear pink. It looks pretty ready to come out to me! And hes the right age

I wouldnt worry about that. I also cant see any real chip

Ahhh thank god it’s a baby tooth! He’s just kinda took a layer off it if you see what I mean?! Where the ridge is at the bottom. Hopefully it will fall out soon then 😅 thank you
