There’s a huge wait currently due to the current situation. Does anyone know of a private company that are doing tests? Thanks

First of all there is always a big wait. We waited 8 months

How old is the child? Do you have serious concerns?

Sorry if I'm being nosey

My DD was about 2.5yo and was speech delayed. We had the test just in case. But to be honest with you we knew she was hearing fine. As a main carer you KNOW it.

Anyways the test was inconclusive, she was shy and terrified of the setup. The doctor had no clue how to connect with a child. He acting wrote that she might be autistic!!!! What a disgrace...

Hearing tests for toddlers are 50/50. They can go well or fail completely. Just keep that in mind if your child is young

Sorry that you had that experience grey12. Ours worked out better, but thought I would write a reply as the test on our DD, who was 3, revealed one ear with moderate hearing loss, and the follow-up appointment showed it had got worse and remains quite marked. However, we had no clue that this was so - speech not delayed or unclear, no alerts in nursery, and it was done only because of numerous ear infections leading to double grommet insertion.

With hindsight there were signs although not of actual hearing loss, more like major sensitivity to certain sounds. She hates noisy echoey surroundings (gyms, some restaurants) and before the grommets would wake a lot as her symptoms were worse when lying down. An eye test reveals that she dips her head a little to one side which I suspect could be to direct the better ear forward. When she got more communicative, she described it as if hearing radio white noise a lot of the time.
