Recurring undiagnosed abdominal pain

Hi there
My 12 year old son has had a recurring pain in his lower left abdomen since he was small. Every few months or a couple of times a year, most recently today for the first time in about a year. We recently had an ultrasound which came back normal. But the pain is so severe and seems to come in waves every few minutes for an hour or so, then is uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards then disappears. While it is happening he can't move or straighten his left leg - he says moving his left leg is directly related to the pain. No bowel issues. Healthy and active in between bouts. I will be pursuing this with the docs but just wondered if anyone has any similar experience as the internet throws up nothing. I know most childhood recurring pains seem to point to anxiety but there seems no link at all for us. Thanks, in advance.
