My seven year old’s permanent teeth haven’t come through five months after his baby teeth fell out!

Is this in the realms of normal? I’ve taken a photo. All of his other permanent teeth came through pretty much immediately once the baby teeth had fallen out. I have no idea if his dentist is even open at the moment otherwise I’d obviously take him to the dentist for a check up.

It can be. My ds has a couple that took about 8 months to come through, the dentist said they would do an X-ray if they hadn't come through in a year.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 03/05/2020 20:28

Mine never came through. They’re just missing. Apparently it can be hereditary- according to my childhood dentist. My mum had only one of hers come through and the other is missing. The other teeth have grown towards each other to fill the gap. I wonder if they had grown on would my mouth be overcrowded?

Chickenitalia · 03/05/2020 20:29

Your ds has almost exactly the same tooth appearance as mine!
He was missing the second teeth for ages, finally one started to come through after about 6 months, the other side has only just got the tiniest point coming now after about 9 months. Dentist BIL said sometimes that is the case and not to worry, even if there are no adult teeth in those positions they won’t do anything until the adult teeth are through and braces can start.

My 6yr olds teeth look exactly the same

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake so glad to hear this. My son has lost a couple now but one of the big teeth in front has not come out after losing the baby tooth

Pinksun12 · 03/05/2020 20:34

One of my son's upper front tooth still hasn't come out, we've been waiting well over a year now and have an appointment with an orthodontist now coming up because the neighbouring teeth have gone all wonky. His dad had similar issues but not on his front teeth, so it can be hereditary indeed

My DS was the same. Had an X-ray just in case, but they were there, just took longer to come down.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/05/2020 21:33

Ah thank you all for replying ♥️♥️

I did read a while back that sometimes the teeth take a while to come through as the jaw has to be wide enough to accommodate them. I had pushed it to the back of my mind until my MIL mentioned it again tonight on FaceTime and I suddenly thought wow it has been a long time now!

Obviously I will get him checked out once we are able. There’s no issue with DP and myself and how our teeth presented. We both have a standard smile, so I guess I’ll just have to wait and hope.

My son had gaps there for over a year before his adult teeth came through. They are fine now.

FluffyPinkSocks · 03/05/2020 22:47

My dd 7 is the same, her teeth are only starting to come down now, 9 months after falling out. I was starting to get worried but checked with dentist who said it’s perfectly normal for some kids.

Pyjamasarethenewblack · 03/05/2020 22:48

My 7 year old is the same. The dentist said he would x-ray her on her next visit to see if the teeth were actually there. Apparently it's really common for these teeth (lateral incisors) to be missing. It's called hypodontia.

minipie · 03/05/2020 22:51

If you put your fingernail against the gap can you feel the bud of a new tooth there? Tooth rather than gum?

My DD’s teeth look very similar but I can feel the teeth are there in the gums if I do that
