Smelly hair

Okay strange one, and I didn't know where to post so hope it's okay here..

My 4 year old DD has beautiful long thick hair however I've noticed just in the last week or 2, whenever I wash it, it smells damp. Her hair is washed every 2 days using Johnsons and then left to dry overnight (perhaps that's the problem, going to bed with wet hair?).

It smells damp immediately after washing, and then the smell lingers the following morning and so on, so basically when her hair is wet or dry.

She sweats a lot at night and I wash her bedding and pillow regularly.

Her scalp and hair are in good condition, no dandruff, redness or anything on her scalp.

Her hair is worn up in a pony most days.

Are there any products I should be using or tips to help eliminate this problem? I tried for the first time this evening blow drying her hair so will see if this makes any difference in the morning..

No recommendations for the smell, but when my daughter had the same issue, I joined the dots on a couple of other symptoms and found out that she had sleep apnea - she was tossing and turning so much that she was having night sweats. Could this be a cause?

This hadn't crossed my mind at all but I doubt it's the case, she sleeps with the duvet pulled right to her head and I don't think she knows how to regulate her body temp!

I know the smell you mean! Dd smells the same she's just turned 3. The only time her hair smells better is if I use a ginger shampoo on her, it smells gingery then. My dd won't let me wash her hair every other day like yours though, more like once a week, she's hates it!

I might try a more fragranced shampoo like the ginger one you suggest! Her hair smells a little better this morning as I blow dried it fully before she went to bed last night. I also suspect my husband isn't fully getting the shampoo out of her hair when he washes it!

Have you smelt the pillow? I know you wash the bedding but how about the pillow itself? Surely it gets wet every time she goes to bed with wet hair?

Thanks, I literally wash her pillow every time I wash her bedding, so at least once a week!
