Does anyone know what this rash is?

My 14 month old daughter started to get this rash on her arms and legs a few days ago. It has now spread to her neck and face. It is very itchy. We are trying to treat it with calamine lotion and antihistamines recommended by our chemist. I'm wondering if it's a plant in the garden, a food allergy, virus, laundry detergent (we use fairy non-bio) or something else. Any ideas what could have caused this please? Thanks.

Looks like heat rash to me

It does look like heat rash, has she been sweaty in the recent good weather? I'd pop a fan in her room at night time and make sure she's not over dressed. It can take a few days to go away if the environmental conditions are not changed.

Did the pharmacist look at it? Is she ok? Normal temperature, eating and drinking ok?

SophieGR · 26/04/2020 08:44

Thanks very much for the replies everyone. She has no temperature and is eating and drinking normally. The pharmacist looked at it and asked if we had changed laundry detergent recently or given her some new food. She's looking a bit better this morning and is itching less. I think you're right about the heat rash. We're going to put her in looser fitting clothes and a lighter sleep bag. Do you think she should be spending less time in the sun (she is in the garden a couple of hours a day) or is it mainly just about wearing looser clothes and being cooler at night?

Do you put sun lotion on when she's outside? It might be that. Just wondered as her back looks clear and it looks like where the lotion would be.

Would not be! That should've said!

We put sun lotion (Thinkbaby lotion) on her arms and legs but her neck was only covered by a wide-brimmed hat.

Her leg could just be from rolling round on grass, especially if you've cut it and it's quite dry, combined with a slight allergic reaction. I get similar marks when going through conifer trees that I react to.

The back of the neck looks worse to me. I'm not convinced by heat rash, but it could be a viral rash. I also wonder about a bad case of hand foot and mouth. One of mine had it all the way up her legs and arms. Does she have any ulcers in the mouth.
Does she have any on her body?

SophieGR · 29/04/2020 12:55

She doesn't have any ulcers on her body or in her mouth. It looks like the rash is starting to disappear. Thanks for your help everyone.
