16 weeks jabs - wake for Calpol?

Hi all

DD had her 16 week jabs today at 4pm. She had one dose of calpol immediately and nurse said to give second dose at 8pm, and then 3rd dose at midnight but only if she is awake or has a temp, otherwise to let her sleep.

DD has just gone to sleep....! Her temp is 36.8°c, she's fine in herself. Do I need to wake her in 15 mins to give next dose of calpol?!
Or shall I just wait until I come to bed and check her temp then (about 9/9.30ish) and give calpol if it's raised?

Thanks!

Personally I would wake and give it her. Mine have always reacted worst to the 16 week jabs.

Solasum · 09/04/2020 19:52

If she is sleeping I’d leave her. If she was feeling rubbish she would surely wake up.

Also have you tried giving it whilst she's asleep. I can usually sneak it slowly into their mouths 😂

MKCH · 09/04/2020 20:06

@brownandpurple 😂 no! I might try that!

This is the problem, I'm also torn between reducing possibility of raised temperature/fever, and not waking sleeping baby (especially when she's only just gone down).

I think second dose can be given 4-6 hours after first dose so I might let her sleep for a bit and then give it to her when I go to bed... she generally stirs a bit then anyway so I could boob and calpol and hopefully she'll go straight back to sleep.

Practice nurse here. We were advised to tell parents to give doses at 4-6 hours but not to wake child to give it unless concerned.

MKCH · 09/04/2020 20:12

@cptartapp ah super! Thanks very much for that. She said that about the midnight dose but didn't say anything about the 8pm - I assume she didn't know baby would be sleeping then - but I didn't know if it was vital to give it or just precautionary. Thank you!

Her temp is fien, I wouldn't. Mine had theirs Tues, by 3 hours ones temp was 38.6, other was 38 so I'd say if it's going to go up much it would have already. Check when you go to bed or if you're worried, keep her down with you.

cptartapp · 09/04/2020 20:23

Give the three doses regardless. But don't obsess about the timing being exact if baby is comfortable and asleep.

LittleBearPad · 09/04/2020 20:29

I really wouldn’t wake her up if she’s asleep and happy in herself. Her temp isn’t high either.

MKCH · 09/04/2020 20:31

@cptartapp ok, got it thanks. So I will give a dose when I go to bed at 9.30/10 (generally try to give her a little feed then anyway to try and help her sleep through), then another dose at 4am ish which is usually when she wakes up for a feed. I'll check her temperature intermittently too.

Good luck! Mine are teenagers now so never had the Men B. Still remember the worry though.
