Lymph node on jaw?

DD (8) told me yesterday she had had a weird lump for a "few weeks" (not sure exact time as she's only just mentioned it so could be a few days to a few weeks)

I felt it and she does indeed have a lump. It's on her jaw bone. (If you feel your jaw bone it's right on it...not under, more towards the top near where it joins the gum) it's soft and moves under your fingers.

Anyway went to the gp today and she said it feels like a lymph node. (After looking confused )

I didn't think you had lymph nodes on the boney part of the jaw. All diagrams on Google have them under the jaw/on the neck.
Ears were checked for infection and they're fine.
She's not had any coughs or colds. Shes been really well lately.

I was told if she still has it in 6 weeks to go back.

Anyone else have lymph nodes on the jaw bone? I can't remember ever having a swollen one there!!!

They're normally just under the jaw, but it can be borderline.

I suspect the reason they're not that concerned is because it's soft and moveable. Has she been ill recently? Could also be a cyst I guess. Although they are normally firmer.

Could she have a tooth abscess?

I had a tooth abscess once and had no pain or anything just a lump on the jaw. I went to the doctor who said it was a swollen lymph gland but to see a dentist. And sure enough, it was an abscess. But the lump was so far forward it really did feel like it was on the jawbone.

Not been ill, and I always thought the lymph nodes were under jaw which is why it's a bit confusing.

I was thinking cyst to begin with, my mum mentioned an abscess. I may phone the dentist and see what they think.

That sounds like a salivary stone to me. My dad and I are prone to them, it's like a little stone that forms in your saliva gland right under your jawline and they can hurt!

I've had one of these for about 30 years. It's a small cyst. I've got them all over my body. The only one I've ever had removed was in my armpit as it
was large and close to lymph nodes there. The others are all still there, including my jaw one.

I’ve had exactly this and was similarly surprised to learn lymph nodes can be all around an area (not just as shown on the diagrams). Due to a cancer history, the doc took it seriously and referred me but they concluded it was just a lymph node, possibly reacting to a mouth ulcer I’d had a few weeks earlier. It took months to go away completely.

I've got a lymph node exactly where you describe - it's too of jaw bone, halfway between chin and jaw joint. It's moveable and always there but it does swell up more when I'm ill. Had it since I was a child. The one in the same spot on the other side of my jaw is tucked under the bone and I can only feel it when I'm ill and it swells.

I know it’s been a while but I also have exactly as you describe for years and it swells more when sick. Did you go to doctors for this?
