Can you get HFM with no rash?

Last week my 18mo was really poorly, no rash or temperature but he wouldn’t eat and was pouring with dribble so I assumed he had a sore throat. This week my other DC has started complaining of a sore mouth. On closer inspection I can see a few tiny ulcer type spots. My partner also has them! After much googling I can’t really find anything other than HFM but none of them have had a rash anywhere else? Is this possible?

Yes. Spots/rash vary depending on person, exposure etc. One of mine had hands, around mouth and bottom, the other hands and feet only.

Number of spots varied too - so no reason why you can't have it and only get a few spots in one place.

Mine had it at 18months too, and only had a few spots between her bottom lip and chin. So much so that the GP actually thought she had tonsillitis and impetigo.

Fast forward to 5 days later when I had exactly the same symptoms as her, along with literally hundreds of spots on my hands and feet! (I stopped counting at 400 on on foot alone!) so it was clearly what DD had, we just reacted slighted differently to it.

It is horrible though, I’ve never felt so poorly in my life, so can see why DD was pretty miserable when she was ill.

Thanks, it’s really odd as none of them have spots anywhere else. In hindsight my son may have had a few spots on his chin which I put down to the amount of dribble literally pouring out constantly. He was very poorly with it! Hopefully everyone else doesn’t suffer as bad.

My daughter has this at about a year and a half. Hardly any spots and all gone within alt 24 hours. Husband got it and was covered for weeks, with the worst sore throat he's ever had. Then all the skin on his hands peeled off and he lost a finger nail. Awful.

What suzie said, I had it like that too. Awful. Hands peeling etc

Literally no rashes on anyone, although the kids have awful snotty colds now. Not sure if it’s related! Strange one.
